Because of what he promised

He ran against the mayor
On a platform of change
He won by a landslide
Now he sits in city hall

At his first city meeting
There was an unruly crowd
Because of what he promised
You know the change and all

It seems what everyone wanted
was different in their minds
What would save one would
Might cause the other pain

So he had them all arrested
Then he put them all in jail
Then he called up the governor
To file a complaint:
He said you just can’t please them all
No matter what you say

After a short silence he said
governor are you there…

The governor said
you got to be careful
with peoples lives
and be careful what you promise
They are sons and daughters of
husbands and wives
And significant others
young and old

Forget about your political designs and do what works

So he let them all out of jail and sent them all home
He had a new meeting down at city hall
And he let every body talk and he listened to them all
And listened and did what he could do
And became more careful about what he promised them
But they were all still angry about the jail time…

What I Could Never Understand

I wish That I could solve with pen
What I could never understand
How the reason for the words went blind
Until what was so simple then
Became so blurred with time

A Fools Game

You can’t back out of a war but once or twice
After that you are a pawn in a fools game
Weak you are and coward is your name

So Soon Forget…

I never know what I am going to say

I never know what is coming next

I try to stay that way… my life has been a wreck

I keep trying to kiss you and some times you let me

How many times I so soon forget…

Please Don’t forget me

Excuse And A Grin (My Darlin)

If I stay out late and dance all-night
If You hear me sneaking in
With the morning light
Will you still love me
Because I was thinking about you
Would you still let me in
With an excuse and a grin
Would you let me in my darlin

Always Together

We are always together
We eat the same meals
Have the same thoughts
Now after more than 25 years
We are more than happy to move on
Move on into the future
The future of our lives together
No matter what the cost

When he could afford a tree

He burned a log in the fireplace
and thought about those green house gasses
Then he looked at the children smiling and warm
And he knew that when he got a new job and got the gas turned on
He would plant a tree in the back yard
When he could afford a tree…

When We Were Young

When we were young we danced all night
Drank champagne in the morning light
We went out looking for beauty and never felt pain
When we were young and there was no defeat
We won every game

When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

Before You Cleared The Chute

Before You Cleared The Chute

When I met you
You took me back

Saw you later with the pack
They tried to cut you from the heard
Never saw you after that

You always were a gentleman
Even if you were a her
With a fine line
Such a little girl
And a woman to boot

You were on the bucking bull
Before you cleared the chute

Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here

I wish you were here
To share with me
The sorrow and the fun
I wish you were here
But you are dead
But not to me
I still carry you
In the deep softness
Of my memory…
